I work directly with local non-profits and bird organizations in the areas we travel to and all profits go directly to them. In addition, I have developed a network of local guides who are all friends who I work with when there are no participating organizations.
I work hard to make these trips fun. Yes, we will see a lot of birds. Yes, we will look for the endemics of the area. But we are a cohesive group and we all work together.
We see just as many bird species as major tour companies ... often more. This is because we use the best local guides with detailed knowledge of the areas and often local tribal or village members in an area to give us access to remote areas. Itineraries are updated frequently to access new areas or to adapt to changing logistics.
We keep the tours as inexpensive as possible and pass on the savings to you. This does not mean we skimp on safety or comfort.
We keep the group together as a unit but are able to adapt because we have two tour guides. For those going a slower pace or when focusing on photography, one guide will hang back with them. Similarly, it is easy to adapt to participants with different levels of bird fanatism ... The lodges are often in super cool places where it is fun to take a morning off and I have always found the group to be supportive and helpful to beginners and keen birders alike.
All tours are focused on supporting local businesses, guides and non-profits. In Mexico we partner with ProNatura; in India with a friend who has pioneered tribal wildlife preserves and village conservation initiatives; in Gambia with local schools and a women's farming initiative. Typically, I do not take any tips but encourage participants to tip the guides and drivers well.
Let's go birding together. I share these trips with friends and friends of friends. Its small and friendly. We can adapt to any trip style you wish if you get the group together. Its always fun to share these trip with your friends.

"If anything, the experience exceeded my expectations. Through meticulous planning and connections with local organizers, we were able to visit places far off the beaten tourist paths; in some places we were among the first ever Western visitors. By using expert local guides, using lovely home-stays and occasionally stopping at markets and restaurants along the route, we met wonderful people, adding to the rich overall experience. As for the birding, it was just superb. It was simply one of the best bird tours I have ever taken."
